Who am I?
C Jolene is a YA Fantasy author who writes character-driven stories about reluctant heroines, angsty love-interests, and worlds brimming with secrets. She is a firm believer that the best books blend high-stakes adventure with a healthy dose of forbidden love and romantic tension. Her debut series is a YA Paranormal Romance, and she is currently at work on the first book.
Okay, that's the official version. But really? I write these stories because, probably like you, I'm obsessed with reading these stories. Let's break it down. Why YA? Because it's so interesting! This is the age where so many firsts happen—first love, first heartbreak, first time you realize the world may not be what you thought. Combine that with the all encompassing emotional intensity, and maybe some creatively engineered conflicts, to get passionate characters and relationships just trying to figure the world out—and maybe, just survive it. Why fantasy? Because we live in the real world every day (duh!). When I read, I want something different, something fantastical, something that helps me escape the monotony of daily life. Whether it's brand new, complex worlds with magic systems and dragons, or this world, but with a secret magical society lurking beneath, I'm there for it. Combine the two, and that's what happiness is made of. With maybe a latte or five. Everything else is just the cherry on top: paranormal romance, forbidden love, enemies to lovers, love triangles, the list goes on and on. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Whether I'm writing urban fantasy, paranormal romance, or some other fantasy sub-genre, you can expect my books to feature high emotional stakes, characters wrestling with secrets (theirs or someone else's), and romances that feel earned, complicated, and maybe even a bit dangerous. Why not throw a teeny bit of spice in, just to add a bit more flavor.
